History

L-Jay has been a professional instructor since 1992.  She trained as a specialist at Arthur Murray International Dance Studios in Brisbane, Australia.  Afterwards she opened her own studio, Rhythm Ballroom in Logan City.  She worked with a number of organisations, city councils, festivals, schools and youth groups promoting activity and health through dance.  L-Jay has also taught dance as part of Physical Education for several public schools in Logan City.

Later L-Jay worked with Studio One School of Dancing, Brisbane, Australia, as a full time instructor.  She gave performances for a number of businesses, organisations, balls, festivals and expos.  Her fresh and light style of teaching became popular at dance events and she was a favourite performer in the dance club scene.

While studying Movement and Performance at the Southbank Institute, L-Jay was freelancing as a private dance instructor.  She moved to Melbourne to continue her drama studies and received a Bachelor of Dramatic Art from the Victoria College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, Australia (2001).  While in Melbourne she choreographed several theatre productions for both national and international directors.

In 2003, L-Jay wrote, directed and choreographed the theatre play Waltzing Matilda which ran for three weeks at the Monash Black Box Theatre.  The play was also performed at the Melbourne Writer’s Theatre.

L-Jay moved onto studying film and TV and received a Diploma of Film and TV Production at RMIT University, Australia (2004), where she experimented with dance and movement on film.

In 2005, L-Jay married a Nordlending (Erlend) and moved to Norway.  She has taught dance for the Institute Centre at the Oslo University College, ‘Moomba Dance’ courses in Harstad as well as managing dance for various community shows while working as the Resident Stage Manager at the Harstad Culture House.

In Tromsø, L-Jay is the resident instructor for UiT danseklubb.  She teaches a number of courses for Salsademika and provides private tuition for individuals, organisations and parties.  L-Jay is also a producer for No Fiesta Siesta Latin American Festival and supports the Tromsø Salsa Congress, Dansens Dag and other dance events and organisations in Tromsø.

L-Jay is a registered Zumba Instructor and instructs ZUMBA® Fitness classes in Tromsø. She is a certified Personal Trainer and Group Training Instructor with the International Fitness Association (IFA) reg:237332. L-Jay also has a Level One Coaching Certificate from the Australian Institute of Sport.

L-Jay and Erlend have two beautiful children under three.  Erlend is currently studying a Bachelor of Science at UiT and is a keen dance student with a shine for the Swing dances.  He looks after Dans på roser’s website and administration.  Currently he is the leader of the UiT danseklubb and supports other events Dans på roser is involved with.
